The Nazarene
Here is a current recording artist who goes back to 1976 when he was introduced to Jesus Music. This is for anyone who loves the blues. I've listened so several of the cuts on his various sites. He definitely has the early blues sounds. Give him a listen and lets support this artist who is still blesing us with his music. You will be able to find him on his website. Eric also has a blog My Private Reformation. He also has two MySpace sites Here and Here. I will also post the links in spots on the left side bar.
It seems I got it only partly right. Eric was gracious enough to send the following.
Around about tea time on the 7th of July 1976, I asked Jesus to come into my heart. I had been sharing a flat with members of 'the drugs to enlightenment generation' of which I was one and going AWOL one weekend found myself being locked up in the Naval Detention Quarters (Simonstown, South Africa) for two weeks.
After my release from Detention I was invited to a retreat above Llundudno at a place called, 'Apostle's Battery'. It was there that I was baptised with the Holy Spirit just like the woman at the well of Summaria.'
I knew nothing of the Jesus Music scene at all and after returning to SAN Barracks and under the anointing of the Holy Spirit began writing songs.
I began playing guitar in 1972, whilst a boarder at SACS High School in Newlands (South Africa). It started when I saw two fellow boarders playing nylon guitars and singing 'The Ballad of John Barleycorn. After walking out of SACS in early 1974, and then Plumstead High in early 1975, my father sent me to the SA Navy in hopes I might learn a little disciple instead I got mixed up with the hippies and bought myself a Fender Concorde Ibanez twelve string the same one I penned my first songs as a Christian.
After returning from Apostle's Battery (the retreat) I sat in my bungalo and with that same guitar in hand I wrote this song: (which I eventually recorded in my home studio, many years later) .jpg)

I only began recording my songs in 1997 with a friend who had a studio. Sometime about 2005/6 I decided to record those early tunes along with some that were similar in style on my homestudio kit ( a fostex multi-tracker ) I did all the instruments and used an old rotar tom for drums...hahaha... the final product was called 'The Nazarene' and I enclosed the cover and inlay and this song
Introductions:
Welcome to The Ancient Star Song blog spot. There are a variety of genres (blues, British beat, folk, jazz, progressive, psychedelic, rock, etc...), from a variety of places around the world (Australia, Canada, Germany, the UK, the US, to name a few), recorded between the mid 60's and the early 80's. This time period was known as the Jesus Music Era. I will be posting several albums a week so check back often. There was a common theme of evangelism for Jesus Christ throughout this period. You may well hear some of the best music you've never heard before.
Archivist:
Unless otherwise noted, all reviews are taken from Archivist (Vintage Vinyl Jesus Music, 1965-1980) by Ken Scott. To order the third edition of this valuable resource contact Ken via e-mail. And for more detailed information about the book click here. My special thanks to Ken for allowing me to use his reviews.
Support the artists:
Please support the artists by buying any reissues that may become available. I will only post albums that are currently out of print and most likely will never be back in print. If you know of anything that I post that is available on CD or vinyl let me know and I will take it down. And if you are the copyright holder of a particular album and would like me to remove it, then please let me know. Thanks! Some Artist I may mention and provide a link to their available items.
Want List:
I am looking for fine christian music from the Jesus Music era which ran from the mid 1960's to about 1980. If you have some that I have not yet posted or that is on my want list and can provide me with the mp3 files I will be happy to post them for others to enjoy too. Please check with me before sending files as I may have the album but just have not gotten to it or may not be posting for other reasons. My email can be found under the "View my complete profile" link near the bottom of the left coloum under About Me. Maybe you have an album that needs to be heard.
I know I have a following in Spain. Yet I have not yet found any Jesus Music from Spain. Do any Spanish readers know of a group from Spain that would qualify for upbeat gospel or Jesus Music from about 1965 to 1980? Also France has yet to have an entry from this period. Any other countries that may have some great Jesus Music We would like to hear from you as well. Jesus Isn't just for Americans He is for all people. Maybe some great praise music from that time period.

GOSPELFOLK, THE
The Gospelfolk (Gosport Sound Service No #) 1967 UK
Sorry no picture of this one
as it is in a plain white cover
I have a xian folk lp(10") from 1967 on a private pressing label which I would think is the only known copy. Not in the best of condition its a folky from the UK by a group called The Gospel Folk. This is not the same band that did the prodigal lp.
It's a plain white cover. The lp is from 1967. To give you some idea of the scale of the pressing operation I have found this link for some of the history behind the Gosport Sound Services label it appears on. I have also contacted a chap a while ago who was resonably knowledgable and he thinks it is likely to have been pressed in no more than 20 copies or as low as 1!
here's the link - To Peter_Copeland
Tracks:
01 Is christianity?

GLENN GARRETT
Renewed Like An Eagle (Cut Above TO-OO4) 1979
Produced by Pat Terry Group members Randy Bugg and Sonny Lallerstedt, Glenn Garrett's third album delivers exactly what you'd expect from that teaming - a nice relaxed Southern blend of rural rock, acoustic ballads and PTG-styled folkrock I'd heard an earlier record of Glenn's and recalled being disappointed at the easy listening arrangements. This one fortunately pursued a more hands-off earthier approach. Glenn plays acoustic guitar and piano while Randy provides bass and Sonny contributes acoustic and electric guitar, mandolin, ebow, arp and drums. Pat Terry and Al Holley make appearances on background vocals. Especially liked the heavier rocking 'Revelation 18'. Ten songs all written by Glenn. Later picked up by the Canadian New Born label (NB 7015).
Tracks:
01. Jehovah-Jirah
02. Peter
03. Renewed like an Eagle
04. My Lord's Day
05. So Good to Call you Friend
06. Walking on with Jesus
07. Christmas Morn
08. The Mountains are Singing
09. Revelation 18
10. By Faith
